Paul Benedict
Paul began a path of raja yoga and meditation in 2001. He holds various teaching certifications, and in 2012 he co-wrote the book “Ancient Wisdom for a New Age: A Practical Guide for Spiritual Growth.”
Learn More“I attended Clear Vision in 2023 and 2025 and both were formative experiences for my practice. 2023 was especially life-changing, as it allowed me to develop a sankalpa that focused on self-care amidst a demanding job and helped me to improve my work-life balance. Ultimately, this sankalpa preserved my wellness and sanity and I credit it for helping me to thrive in my career before I left that job. Thank you! Tanya and Paul have been wonderful teachers and great influences for me.”

Focal Points & Info
ESTABLISH CLEAR 20/20 VISION WITH YOGA + WELLNESS!
Tanya and Paul have extensive backgrounds in yoga, meditation, breathwork, energy work, yoga philosophy, spiritual & personal growth, vedic astrology, Thai Yoga Bodywork, ayurveda, and additional related modalities. They are thrilled to share with YOU a week of rich, experiential yoga practice, study, discussion, and discovery!
The theme of the retreat, CLEAR VISION, was intentionally chosen because of the importance of self-reflection and self-direction for taking in the huge changes and effects from daily life, as well as preparation for navigating your future, in every single new day, and with every new breath we take. The yogic principle of viveka (i.e. ‘clarity of perception’) is central to seeing the world, and your path ahead, without emotional biases, without “coloring” or distortion from past experiences, habits, and patterns; seeing from the highest perspective possible… from the eyes of your true Self. In other words, seeing clearly means first consciously and honestly evaluating your current state, and then uncovering your path, your goals, your priorities for the immediate future. Expect to leave the retreat with a clear plan of action and pragmatic next steps, specific personal practices, and a new sense of purpose and motivation for effective forward movement!

RETREAT TOPICS & TOOLS:
Here’s a description of some of the practices and teachings Tanya and Paul will lead you through:
- Asana (physical yoga) practice – a variety of hatha and vinyasa yoga practices will be given each day, for all levels of practitioners. All practices will be accessible to all retreat attendees. Options will be offered for more advanced practitioners, and modifications will be given for those newer to yoga.
- Pranayama (breathwork) – each yoga practice will include guided breathing technique(s) with specific intention(s). Similar to meditation above, breathwork also aims to achieve various energetic results as well as calming and soothing of the body/mind/emotions. We will also have specialty Breathwork workshops during the week.
- Meditation – each yoga practice will include a guided meditation technique with a specific intention. Intentions include building energy, directing energy, hearing your intuition/inner guide, calming the mind, calming the body, rejuvenating the senses, cultivating positivity, and much more.
- Yoga Nidra – this is a beautiful guided relaxation technique, practiced laying down, which essentially puts the body to sleep and takes the mind to deeper and more expanded states of consciousness. Tanya and Paul love yoga nidra… expect several juicy sessions during the retreat!
- Visualization – this can be described as a type of meditation as well, but more appropriately, it’s a more “active meditation”, during which specific aspects of ourselves are addressed; whether to remove internal blockages, optimize our supportive patterns, reduce our non-supportive behaviours, and more.
- Dharma Shakti / The Purusharta – Tanya and Paul will guide you to understand and apply the ancient and profound teachings called “The Purusharta” or 4 Aims of the Soul during the retreat. This is a brilliant Teaching that promotes the discovery of key touchstones in your life: your overarching grand purpose, immediate goal(s) that support your purpose, hidden resistance to living your purpose, and techniques to overcome that resistance. WOW!
- Thai Yoga Bodywork – Our lucky retreat participants will give AND receive a lovely session of this yummy practice, which merges traditional Thai massage with the subtler work of energy medicine. Unique from other types of bodywork and massage, Thai Yoga Bodywork is also a form of Yoga Therapy that combines rhythmic massage, assisted yoga poses, acupressure along energy meridians know as the “Sen,” healing energy work, and meditation.
- Intuition Exercises – Each day we will do at least one intuition-building exercise to help validate and test our inner voice and develop trust within.
- Chanting – use your voice to open your dormant energy, clear and heal past wounds, and connect with the Sacred.
- Ritual – Our heart and soul longs for meaning. Throughout the week and especially at the end of the week, Paul and Tanya will guide you through some of their favorite daily and event-related practices to connect to auspiciousness in life.

Getting There: Airports & Shuttles

AIRPORTS To COSTA RICA
The two international airports in Costa Rica are: Liberia International Airport (LIR – also called Daniel Oduber Quiros Airport) and San Jose International Airport (SJO – also called Juan Santamaria Airport). Both airports have frequent flights to and from all over the United States and Canada.
We recommend flying into Liberia International Airport (LIR), which has been recently expanded with increased numbers of flights from the US and Canada. It is only a two and a half-hour scenic drive from Blue Spirit Costa Rica, and has become a destination of many non-stop flights from several US cities (New York, Miami, Atlanta, Denver, and Houston).
Flying to San Jose International Airport (SJO) is also an option as sometimes flights from the US, Canada, or other parts of the world are less expensive or more direct than flying into Liberia International Airport (LIR). Getting to Blue Spirit from San Jose International Airport (SJO) by ground transportation however is more costly and can take 4 ½ hours.
An alternative option is to take a 40-minute short domestic flight from/to San Jose International Airport to/from the local Nosara Airport (only a 20-minute drive from Blue Spirit).
Each departing passenger must pay (often not included on the ticket fare) a USD $29 departure tax at either San Jose International Airport (SJO) or Liberia International Airport (LIR) before exiting Costa Rica. It can be paid in cash in US dollars, Costa Rican Colones or with a credit card. Whether you choose to fly into Liberia International Airport (LIR) or San Jose International Airport (SJO), there are a variety of options available for your travel onwards to Blue Spirit.
Click here for directions to Blue Spirit from either airport.
TRANSFERS & SHUTTLES
Transfer options between Liberia International Airport and Blue Spirit
For all group shuttle services, you will need to make advanced reservations directly with Blue Spirit.
Visit their Shuttle Reservations page on Blue Spirit’s website.
Blue Spirit group shuttles run on Saturdays only several times during the day from/to Liberia International Airport. Saturdays are the arrival and departure days of the programs.
It is a scenic two and a half-hour drive. The cost is approximately $75 per person each way, payable in cash or by credit card at Blue Spirit reception.
According to the arrival times of all major airlines, we have grouped the shuttle pickups between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. for flights arriving at midday and early afternoon, and between 7 pm and 8:30 p.m. for all flights arriving in the evening.
This means that if you have reserved a seat on a group shuttle, and your flight is arriving in any of these two mentioned time periods, a Blue Spirit group shuttle will be waiting for you outside of the Arrivals terminal.
For your departure from Blue Spirit offers several group shuttle services each Saturday to Liberia International Airport: 3:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. Booking opens 2-4 weeks before your scheduled retreat.
You should plan to be at the airport two hours before your flight’s departure. This means that if your home-bound flight leaves from Liberia i.e. at 2 p.m., we recommend you to leave with the group shuttle from Blue Spirit at 9 a.m. to arrive in Liberia at 11:30 a.m. (around two hours before your scheduled flight).
Individual transfer is available for guests, who are not arriving or departing on Saturdays or those who wish to travel more privately. Blue Spirit will gladly arrange for your pick up by their trusted drivers (one way: $160 one person, and $80 each for two people). The same rates apply from Blue Spirit to Liberia Airport. To book one of their drivers, visit their Shuttle Reservations page.
TRANSFER OPTIONS BETWEEN SAN JOSE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND BLUE SPIRIT
Blue Spirit does not run regular group shuttles from/to San Jose International Airport, guests have the option to either hire their own taxi for the 4.5 hours trip from the airport in San Jose to Blue Spirit in Nosara for approximately $240.
Blue Spirit also gladly arranges for one of their trusted drivers to pick you up at San Jose International Airport (one way: $240 one person, $120 two people, $80 three or more people). The same rates apply from Blue Spirit to San Jose Airport.
To arrange a transfer from/to San Jose, visit their Shuttle Reservations page.
RENTAL CAR
You may reserve your own rental car to drive from Liberia or San Jose airports to Blue Spirit. However, a car is not needed during your stay with us.
We recommend online bookings with natcar, as this car rental agency allow one-way rentals for you to drop off your vehicle in Nosara. The cost of a one-day rental car with drop off in Nosara is usually around $100.

HELPFUL INFO + FAQ
Helpful information, frequently asked questions, and details to make YOUR retreat the best it can be.
TRAVEL TO COSTA RICA
Check out Costa Rica’s Travel Requirements page online. It will be up to date with the changing landscape of what’s needed during COVID times. In general, citizens of the US, Canada, and Panama may enter Costa Rica with a passport that is valid for 6 months min after your travel dates. Identification such as a driver’s license or birth certificate is no longer valid for travel to Costa Rica.
A valid passport allows Canadian, American, as well as most Latin American, and European citizens to stay for up to 90 days. Citizens of other countries may require a visa to enter Costa Rica.
Before you leave for Costa Rica, it’s a good idea to scan your passport and email it to yourself, so you have a digital copy available if necessary. Also, a good idea to make a physical copy of it and carry that with you while in Costa Rica. You should leave your original passport in the safety box at Blue Spirit.
Costa Rica’s Liberia Airport is the closest international airport to Blue Spirit. It is possible to fly in to San Jose, but traveling to Blue Spirit is a much longer and more expensive journey. There are also options for flights directly to Nosara. The front desk staff at Blue Spirit can advise on those flights as well.
GETTING TO BLUE SPIRIT
Shuttle Services: Blue Spirit will assist in arranging your shuttle! It’s very simple. 2-4 weeks before your scheduled retreat, you may complete your shuttle registration through Blue Spirit directly here.
If you are driving to Blue Spirit you can search the location on Google Maps writing “Blue Spirit Retreat Center”. Please note that there are no street addresses or street names in Nosara. We do not recommend sending any type of package nor is it guaranteed that we will receive mail or shipments made to this address.

SPECIAL MEAL REQUESTS
Blue Spirit does a great job in accommodating special meal needs (such as lactose intolerance, food allergies, …etc.). Please make it a point to communicate these requests to us or to Blue Spirit’s front desk staff directly at least 2 weeks in advance. Please keep in mind that a huge variety of non-allergic products are not as easily available in Costa Rica (as they are in the U.S.). Once you have arrived and settled in please ask the front desk to speak with the Chef to discuss your needs and how the kitchen staff may assist you.
An additional way of satisfying special meal needs is Blue Spirit’s PURE FOOD OPTION, which is part of our daily buffet style served lunch and dinner: offering of greens, grain, and legume (beans) without oils or seasoning.
Also, Blue Spirit has a refrigerator where guests can store their medications (not food).
CAN I DRINK THE WATER THERE?
Yes! Blue Spirit has their own well and a state-of-the-art filtration system.
BLUE SPIRIT CAFÉ
The café is open daily – opening hours are adapted to our retreat program’s schedule.
The café offers fresh juices, smoothies (“try the Cacao Kick Smoothie” says Tanya), freshly baked goods, raw food snacks, specialty coffees and espresso, locally brewed kombucha, and in the evening organic wines and artisanal beers (in recyclable bottles). Food and beverages at the Café are not included in the room & board rates of our program. All purchases will be charged individually and can be paid with cash or charged directly to the room.
SPA & LONGEVITY SERVICES
Massages, bodywork, facial treatments, nutritional coaching, astrology, and more are available upon request. Guests can book all sessions at the front desk. Payment can be made in cash or charged to the room when the services are scheduled.
MEDICAL SERVICES IN NOSARA
From a general health perspective, Costa Rica has high health standards in the entire country and is considered one of the safest destinations in the developing world. If you have a healthcare provider in the country of your origin, you may want to inquire before your travels about their coverage policy, when traveling to Costa Rica. English-speaking doctors and dentists have offices located 15 minutes from Blue Spirit. A hospital is located within a 45 minutes’ drive in Nicoya, or for serious conditions, an airlift is available to a hospital with excellent and Western standard medical care in the capital of San Jose within 45 minutes. Typically, from US, Canada or EU no shots are required, for others, please check Costa Rica’s requirements for your country.
COMMUNICATION, OFFICE NEEDS, AND ELECTRICITY
Phone: Blue Spirit has a phone to use for the guests for calls within Costa Rica (free of charge) and international calls (phone cards can be purchased at front desk). We also recommend the use of Facetime, WhatsApp, or other Internet phone services. If your loved ones at home would like to connect with you and leave messages during your stay at Blue Spirit they can call: +1 845-684-2007. This line connects with their offices in Costa Rica & the US at the US calling rates. If you need to reach Blue Spirit from within Costa Rica, dial the following numbers: 2656.8300 / 2656.8228 (both numbers are only valid from within Costa Rica).
WiFi: available at no charge everywhere on the premises (except Tents and Eco-Cottages), and the use of voice over Internet is easy, inexpensive, and reliable. WiFi can be accessed via personal laptops for use of E-mail, WhatsApp, or any Internet-phone calls. Please, note that Blue Spirit does not guarantee connection to all types of laptop computers and does not have a technician on site for WiFi access.
Cellular service: There is cell phone service on the premises that support local Costa Rica cell phones and international phones (though this is expensive). Be sure to contact your cell phone provider before you go and decide on an International Plan for you. For example, Verizon customers may opt for TravelPass which charges $12/day to use data up to a certain amount within 24 hours.
Public Access Computer: Available to our guests (free of charge) in the Lobby.
Copy Machine: For limited use and faculty only: at the rate of $.40 per copy. If you have large copy jobs, please prepare those in advanced and bring them with you; or they can be sent out locally and done at a rate per copy.
Electricity: The voltage throughout the country is 110, the same as in North America… US travelers don’t need any adapters! Travelers with appliances set for 220 will need an adapter that changes the voltage and allows for use of a different plug.
CANDLES & INCENSE
For reasons of fire safety, we don’t allow any candle or incense burning in any of the accommodations. We do allow the burning of candles and incense for ritual or teaching purposes in the classrooms, however, only if the flame is attended to at all times.
SAFETY BOX & PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Each room is provided with a safety box at no charge. The safety box is big enough to hold a laptop. Blue Spirit is not responsible for any stolen personal belongings on the premises. Tents do not come with a safety box – valuables can be stored in safety box at front desk.
LOST OR NON-RETURNED KEYS
Blue Spirit charges a $25 fee for lost or non-returned room keys.
MONEY
Any extra spending while being at Blue Spirit (i.e. for activities organized through our reception desk, like surf lessons, horseback riding, canopy tours, or spa services) and any consumption at their Café can be charged to your room and you can pay with cash or your credit card at the end of the week. Therefore, we recommend not bringing too much extra cash from home. The US Dollar is widely accepted in Costa Rica, especially in Nosara, so exchanging US Dollars to Costa Rica Colones is not necessary. Smaller denominations of $20 or less are easiest to cash. The exchange rate is approximately 600 Colones per US Dollar.
There are only 2 ATM machines and banks in town, which one is a 20-minute drive and the other like 30-minute drive from Blue Spirit. The closest ATM and Bank only accept VISA Cards and disperse Costa Rica Colones. The second one takes other cards and disperse also US dollars.
DO I TIP AT BLUE SPIRIT?
There is a ~$90 fee added to your bill which covers gratuities for the employees of Blue Spirit (you are welcome to change that number so that it’s less or more, at your discretion). That fee does not cover tips for massage therapists. Other tips to consider during this retreat are small tips for shuttle drivers who are not employees of Blue Spirit, and tips for activity leaders/guides should you decide to go on a nature tour, take a surf lesson, etc.
TIME ZONE
Costa Rica is on Central Standard Time, six hours behind Greenwich Mean Time and one hour behind EST in the States. It does not use daylight saving time – which means that when there is daylight saving time in the US, then Costa Rica is on MST (2 hours behind EST).
WHAT TO PACK!?
Don’t forget to pack: Beach-towel, Camera/batteries/charger, alarm clock, sunscreen, sun hat, bathing suit, water bottle, natural bug repellent, your special medication, hiking sandals, and jeans if you decide to go horseback riding, We recommend bringing a flashlight. In case you will travel around the Central Valley and San Jose, pack a light raincoat or rain-poncho. Blue Spirit also has some hairdryers available at the Front Desk for guests to borrow.
WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE FOR DINNER?
Pura Vida! Blue Spirit is totally casual! That means the only thing not allowed during meals is bare feet and bathing suits. Clothes and shoes are required.
SHOULD I TAKE MY OWN YOGA MAT?
Leave it at home and save your luggage space. They have all of it there!
CAN I TAKE THE KIDS?
There is no onsite childcare, but if you are traveling with an adult who can care for the children while you are in class, they are welcome to join. The Nature Suites have the most room and so are the most family friendly.
BLUE SPIRIT STORE
Should you forget essential items at home or are looking for some snack foods, books to read, gift items, clothing, or souvenirs – the Blue Spirit Store offers a wide array of goods to purchase. You can pay cash (US$, Costa Rican Colones) or with a credit card.
ACTIVITIES / EXCURSIONS
Front Desk is glad to assist you in organizing Surf-Lessons, Horseback-Riding, Turtle Nesting Tour (if in season), Canopy Adventures, River Boat Tour (Bird watching), River Kayaking, or Stand-Up-Paddle-Surf. Payments can be made in cash or with a credit card at reception.

BOOK NOW!“Tanya & Paul’s yoga retreat in Costa Rica was truly a five-star experience.
I went in expecting a yoga retreat, but what I received was something so much deeper. It was inspirational and transformational in ways I could not have expected. This was not simply about moving your body or getting through a class. They created an experience that taught the true philosophy of yoga, the connection between mind, body, spirit, breath, presence, and intention.
This retreat was a real treat in every sense of the word. I left feeling lighter, more connected, more inspired, and deeply grateful. If you are looking for more than just yoga poses, if you are looking for something that can truly shift you, I cannot recommend Clear Vision Retreat enough.”
